Posázavský potlach in the Caribbean
„Are you crazy to fly so far that you only have Czech faces around you!“ „The Caribbean and living in a Czech village?“ „Enjoying a tropical paradise among the Czechs?“ My friends and family reacted like this and sometimes much more pepperily when I presented her intention to fly to the Caribbean island of Roatan and stay there in a Czech village. But I was tempted to get to know the project that took place there, when in 2008 a group of Czech enthusiasts built the first houses in the tropical climate of the Caribbean Sea.
Czech village in the middle of the tropics
If you wore a piggy bank on your back and spent weekends on a mess, you're in the right place. If you spent your evenings with friends playing the guitar and nothing romantic is foreign to you, you are right here. Or if you're from a generation of younger adventurers who don't hesitate to throw a bagel on their back and travel to all kinds of devils, you're in the right place. During the day you will explore the wilderness and in the evening you will go down in a pub with a beer and sing timeless tramp hits. The cottage settlements in Posázaví and the never-ending evenings in the moonlight, with friends and a guitar, will come before your eyes. And dew on the tracks.
The beach is quiet and peaceful
Roatan is a small island off the coast of Honduras and belongs to Honduras. It is only 60 km long and about 8 km wide. The planes land in the largest city of Coxen Hole, where there is an international airport. The island is also a regular stop on the giant cruise ships that cruise the Caribbean. It is a paradise for divers. The western part of the island is more exposed to tourists and is a frequent destination for American tourists. The eastern part of the island is less visited, wilder. I definitely liked it more. Empty beaches, plenty of privacy and tranquility. What more could one want to rest?
Trip to the Pigeon Islands
You will not be bored. You can take a boat ride on the turquoise blue beaches of the Pigeon Islands, you can go diving or take a boat ride through the mangroves.
Private VIP headquarters
If you're lucky enough to get past the security guards, you can take a closer look at Michael Douglas's Roatan mansion.
Dolphins
The company will make you a herd of dolphins on a boat trip. They are playful like little children.
Fishing
Amateur fishermen will also catch their catch here. You won't leave on Roatan empty-handed.
Iguana farm
Don't miss a visit to the iguana farm. So if you have the courage to enter among the dragons. The largest measures even one meter. On the island you will meet iguanas in the wild, more often the black ones, less often the green ones. The locals consider them a gastronomic delicacy. But you can usually find a lizard in the bathroom, or shake it off a towel.
Folk dances
Come and see how the locals celebrate. Their dance creations are admirable.
Turquoise bay
Roatan has another big advantage. He's the side of all the tornadoes raging in the Caribbean. The ideal time to stay is February to June. The rainy season begins in November and ends in mid-January. We were in early September. Occasionally there was a shower, but we also experienced sunny days. The temperature was still around thirty.
