Semily can be found in the deep valley of the river Jizera. Together with Železný Brod, they are considered to be the northern end of the Bohemian Paradise, even though they already fall more into the Podkrkonoší Mountains in terms of landscape. Semily is a good starting point for hiking around the Jizera. There is one of the most famous routes in the Bohemian Paradise – the Rieger Trail. Another interesting fact is that Semily is the smallest district town in the Czech Republic, with only 8,000 inhabitants.
