The historic center of town Jicin is formed by large (150×90 meters) Wallenstein Square, which is surrounded on all sides by houses with arcades. The main landmark is 52 m high Valdice gate with the possibility to ascent to the viewing platform – the last of the three towers that once served as part of the towns fortification. Right next is a great Church of St. James and Baroque castle. In the center of the square is a pretty fountain with a statue of Amphitrite. The most beautiful walks are here in the late afternoon when is the square beautifully tinted by the sun. The biggest bustle and hustle is here on Saturday mornings, because there are regular markets.
