Palmanova is located in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy. The Venetian Republic began building this city in 1593, originally as a fortress against the attacks of the Turks. For defensive and military reasons, Palmanova has the shape of a nine-pointed star. The author of this design is the important architect Giulio Savorgnan. To this day, complete walls are preserved and the entrance to the city through narrow gates is controlled by a traffic light shuttle. Under the walls around the whole city there is a water canal, along which the paths are suitable for walking, running or walking dogs. In 1960, the city was registered as a National Monument.
