Gavathas Bay lies at the very end of a six-kilometer-long gravel road. Here you will find a nice beach, a small town with a church and a port, as well as an old rusted tank – a slightly unique attraction on the island of Lesbos. The sightseeing panorama is completed by a small island located half a kilometer from the mainland. From here you can go on two small walks to the chapel at the southern end of the bay or to the view of the farm.

The town of Gavathas

Start your tour of Gavathas Bay in the slightly sleepy town of the same name. At the very end is a small harbor from where you can see the local white church.

The port of Gavathas

From the port you can see the hills to the west of the city, where you can go for a short walk with beautiful views of the bay.

Abandoned tank

The biggest attraction here, however, is an abandoned rusted tank standing just a short distance from the church

Gavathas beach

Gavathas Beach is one of the longest beaches on the island of Lesbos. It has a very gradual slope, so it is also ideal for families with children. In addition, due to the fact that it is relatively far from the main road, it is also quite little visited.

Chapel behind the beach

About halfway up the bay, just behind the road is a small private chapel and a few holiday homes.

The southern part of Gavathas Bay

The southern part of Gavathas Bay is completely deserted. There are also small rocks and deposits of seagrass.

Road to the chapel

You can also come across a footpath that will take you to the very top of the peninsula, where there is a small chapel

Small chapel

The chapel itself looks slightly deserted, moreover behind the fence, so its meaning escapes me a bit, anyway there is a nice view of the side bay a little further, so it makes sense to come here.

View of the island

There is also a nice view of the island from here. The distance, but it deceives, is almost half a kilometer away, so think twice before going on a cruise.

View of Kampos Bay

From the lookout you can see the neighboring bay of Kampos, even more deserted than Gavathas.
