Almost everyone who visits the northernmost Greek island of Thassos makes a trip to the longest beach here – Golden. You can find it in the northeast of the island. It is suitable for children thanks to the gentle waves and sand. The beach is three kilometers long, so it takes quite a bit of time to go around it. Sections with umbrellas and free beaches alternate here.

View to the south of Golden Beach

If you settle down roughly somewhere in the middle of the beach, you will find that the ends of the beach on both sides are far into the horizon. The southern part of the beach is bordered by a beautiful green mountain ridge reaching a height of several hundred meters above sea level.

View to the north

The view to the north is not as dramatic as to the south. Behind the hills that you can see from here, however, is the famous Marble Beach.

Wall of mountains

To the west rise the highest mountains of Thassos, reaching over a thousand meters above sea level. From here they look like a huge stone wall

Pictures from Golden Beach

There is something for everyone at Golden Beach. Overcrowded organized sections alternate here with places where you will have privacy even in the peak season

Water attraction

Towards the northern end of the beach, you will also come across water inflatable attractions.

Northern end of Golden Beach

The northern end of Golden Beach is called Chryse Ammoudia. It's actually such a small resort.

The rocks at Chrys Ammoudia

There are several rocks in the water from which you can jump.

This is where the beach ends and the rocky cove begins

Pebble part of Golden Beach

Golden Beach is described as sandy, but this is certainly not true for its entire length. Its southern part, perhaps a quarter of the entire beach, is pebbly and the stones are quite large. I don't recommend going here.

Rock of Potamis

The very south of the beach falls under another small resort of Skala Potamis. The stony section is replaced by sand here.

Beach in Skala Potamis

Since there are a lot of people staying at Skala Potamis and the pleasant stretch of beach is relatively short, it is very overcrowded.

The end of Golden Beach in the south

At the very southern end you will find a small harbor.

For me, the best part of Golden Beach is from the middle to the north. Definitely worth a visit just for the mountain views.
