Tour of Písek

We can start our tour of Písek, for example, in Palackého sady, which forms the northern end of the historic center. It is one of the pleasant relaxation areas of the city. You will see here, for example, the Frána Šrámek Theater, a fountain with a statue of Neptune or, of course, a statue of František Palacký

Go through Palacky orchards in a westerly direction and descend to Ottawa. Directly in front of you will be the most important monument of Písek – the Stone Bridge, the oldest stone bridge in Bohemia

Right opposite the Stone Bridge is the house with the most interesting sign in Písek – U Slona

In spring, the banks of the Otava at the Stone Bridge are decorated with beautiful sand sculptures

From the Stone Weir we head upstream of the Otava River with a view of the historic center. The city itself is pleasant for sports-minded people – the possibilities for cycling and hiking are great

Quite an interesting building is a chapel in the former city cemetery

From the waterfront there are very nice views of the old town

We will cross the bridge over the island back to the other side of the Otava and go to the historic center to the places where the Putim Gate once stood

One of the biggest landmarks of Písek is the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary with a 74 meter high tower

From the church with Leoš Janáček Street we get to Alšovo náměstí, one of the two most important in Písek. The impressive Sgraffito House by the Black Eagle and the Marian Plague Sculpture can be seen here

The complete city center is the elongated Great Square with a large town hall

The most interesting landmark of the Great Square in Písek is the two-tower town hall building.

From the square, walk to the castle courtyard, where there is also an entrance to the Prácheň Museum. Next door is another large area near the malthouse

The excursion circuit around Písek is slowly closing. The statue of St. Florian is of interest in the small Havlíčkův náměstí.

From Havlíčkův náměstí, walk through an interesting passage to Palackého sady and close the circuit
