On the mountain road connecting Arkasa on the west and Pigadia on the east coast you will find the mountain town of Menetes (370m above sea level). It is built on a rocky promontory and the adjacent mountain slope, so it also serves as a beautiful view of the region. There is almost always a fresh wind, so typical of Karpathos

Arrival in Menetes

Upon arrival from Arkasa, Menetes will show you in all its beauty, although it is still not the most famous view of the city. The town itself is located between a rock and a mountain slope.

Dominants of Menetes

It is a great pity that right next to a beautiful church on a rock stands a huge ugly building. Directly below it is a small parking lot.

Houses in Menetes

As in almost every ancient Greek mountain town, the houses are small and glued to each other. Unfortunately, you will also find a number of abandoned and unmaintained houses here. The exodus of the Greeks from Karpathos to the United States is well known.

Church in Menetes

The most important monument of the city is the church, which has a great atmosphere in the early evening.

Early evening panorama of Menetes

From the church there is an absolutely amazing view of the city. The second church is just below the mountains and the view from it must also be absolutely great.

Guerrilla submachine gun

If you are „lucky“ and meet a bus in the city in the opposite direction, the passage of Menetes will become an adrenaline experience. Stop in the first serpentine near the cemetery and climb the stairs to the guerrilla statue. There is a great view from all sides.

Views of Menetes and the mountain road

From this side there is only the right classic view of the city, where the ugly building is not visible.

City on the rock

From this point of view, it is beautiful to see how the city is literally glued to the edge of the rock.

Panorama from the viewpoint

Directly below you is a relatively lower part of the island descending to the largest bay and the capital Pigadia. The highest mountains of the island can be seen on the horizon.
