One of the biggest attractions of the Stubai Alps, or rather the Stubai Valley, is the cable car ride over the Stubai Glacier to the Top of Tyrol viewpoint (3,210m). There are two intermediate stations along the way, where you can break the journey and walk around the beautiful surroundings.

Lower station of the Eisgrat cable car (1,695m)

The start of the trip is at the bottom station of the Eisgrat cable car (1,695m). There is a huge parking lot nearby (free of charge). The station is located at the very end of the Stubai Valley, less than 40 kilometers from Innsbruck.

Climbing to the first intermediate station

The first part of the cable car takes you to a significant terrain break 600 meters higher.

View back to the Stubai Valley

The view back is very beautiful as we get higher and higher above the Stubai Valley.

Tunnel and bridge side by side

An interesting place is where the dirt road intended to supply the mountain hut Dresdner Hütte disappears in a short tunnel and right next to it is a pedestrian bridge crossing the narrow gorge of the Fernaubach stream. This place is only 400 meters from the intermediate station of the cable car, so you can run here and have a closer look at the gorge.

Under the Dresdner Hütte

We finally arrive at the first intermediate station Fernau (2,300m). We are in a very picturesque place with lots of hiking opportunities. The iconic Dresdner Hütte is built above the cable car station

Beschneiungsspeicher

The highlight of this part of the climb is definitely riding over the lake. If you walk between the stations, it is definitely worth taking the path around this lake

Above the pond

Above the lake, a panorama of lower peaks above the Stubai valley opens up

Right in front of the Eisgrat station

We are slowly approaching the second intermediate station and a height of almost three thousand meters above sea level.

Mammoth at Eisgrat station

We arrive at the second intermediate station – Eisgrat (2,900m). There is a large slide in the form of a mammoth. You can also go to an ice cave from here

View of the surrounding 3,000-square-meter buildings

We are already in a high mountain environment and around us are towering giants with an obviously receding glacier

Over the glacier on the Schaufeljoch

Now the last, shortest ride awaits us. We climb above the glacier in the direction of Schaufeljoch. We can already see the observation platform Top of Tyrol.
