Doubrava Valley

Czech Grand Canyon

A unique canyon of the Doubrava river, which is located in the Vysočina region in the Železná hora Protected Landscape Area. Here the river cut rocks and dug millions of years, so this canyon. Some publications compare it to the legendary Grand Canyon, where this activity is created by the Colorado River. Not only paddlers but also hikers and climbers fell in love with the river and its beautiful valley. The best way to connect the river with a one-day hike is to get out of Chotěboř by road and go a few kilometers to the valley of the river Doubrava, we also call it Doubravka. Now a 6km valley full of rocks awaits us. The beginning is mild, but even here the river makes nice rapids in places. It is quite dangerous to go it in the winter, when there is ice on the stones under the snow and there is no emergency from the accident. It is the most picturesque in the vicinity of the Devil's Table, where the castle used to be. Today, its remains are no longer visible. This rock is widely used by climbers. Here is also a signpost, Where you can walk along the green, it is for those who had enough or continue along the red and enjoy the predation of the river. There are also several tramp camps, which hikers use to find here. In December, climbers and hikers meet and end the season without obligation. In March, on the other hand, paddlers unlock the river here, which is passable and quite predatory due to the high water level, so there is no shortage of clicks. Both along Zelená and Červená, which leads around the canyon, you will reach Bílek, where steam (train) runs to Chotěboř. From my point of view, the Doubrava valley is one of the most beautiful in our republic.
