Sailing under the highest waterfall in the world
The second day of the trip to the highest waterfall in the world – Salto Angel is the main one. First, a more than four-hour cruise through the beautiful landscape of the table mountains to the base camp below the waterfall awaits us. As a bonus, there are several smaller rapids
Road to the port
From Canaima it is about a kilometer to a small port, built just above the waterfalls. Such a sightseeing truck will take you here.

Table Mountain and Savannah
The area around Canaima is deforested with a typical savannah. The nearby Table Mountains rise above it. It floats along the Carrao River, which is about 200 meters wide.

However, it is enough to drive a few kilometers further along the river and finally there is the real forest. The path on the boat is quite empty and we can also watch the surrounding boats and behind them geysers of water.

The individual boats are not too far apart so that they can help themselves quickly in the event of a problem. The rock walls already belong to the huge table mountain Auyantepui (Devil's Mountain) from which Salto Angel is just flowing.

The most dangerous part of the journey is when overcoming rapids. The broken remains of the canoes around are not entirely optimistic.
The wilder part of the river
A peaceful cruise is a bit wilder in several places.

After turning onto the Churún River, it is much slower and more cautious. It is a much smaller river than Carrao. In times of severe drought, even a canoe has trouble navigating.
