Bastei the most popular place in Saxon Switzerland. It is in a very specially protected area near the village of Kurort Rathen, where cars are strictly forbidden. Everyone gets here thanks to the ferry. There is a beautiful 76 meter long bridge over the Elbe canyon and near it are the Swedish pits, which are secluded thanks to this monument, but are still beautiful.

Bastei and the Swedish Pits

We arrived in Kurort Rathen by some other train, for example by car, but we can get to the other bank only by ferry. As there is a strict ban on cars on the other bank, as is the case in Zermatt pod Matterhorn. I recommend going here by 8 o'clock in the morning. Because then clouds of tourists pour in here. The way up is quite challenging, it is necessary to conquer the Elbe canyon, where the rocks rise some 180 meters from the level of the Elbe. It is challenging for the less able. Along the way there are several balconies with beautiful views of the surroundings and the dominant rock, which I named Two Indians. It is a short distance from this rock. According to the latest information, the Bastei bridge is not allowed. This should be the last 2 years. The reason is the poor condition of the rocks and there is a risk of collapse. There are also several snacks by the bridge. Here one has two options. Go back the same way or continue to the parking lot and from here the trail begins, where you can walk through the Swedish pits. We go through a beautiful pass of rocks, which we know from Adršpach, Prachovky or other parts of the Bohemian Paradise. They are much less frequented and I like it much more. The trail ends at Amselsee and from there back to Kurort Rathen, where I can already observe the crowds of people coming here.

For two Indians

I don't know that this rock has a name, but from this point of view, I named it Two Indians. I see on them profiles of two heads of Indians.
