Bârsana is a popular village in the Maramures Basin. The newly built Orthodox nunnery, which consists of a complex of wooden buildings and a church, is often visited.
Entrance to the monastery complex
The Bârsana Monastery is entered through a monumental gate with a bell tower, which also houses a small shop.
Wooden buildings
The monastery consists of a complex of mostly wooden buildings that serve the needs of the local nuns. The monastery has a beautifully maintained garden.
Merging with the surrounding nature
The buildings of the monastery are very sensitively located in the landscape. Although the monastery is built relatively recently, it seems that it has always belonged here.
Church
There is no church missing in the monastery complex. The local one has a 56 meter high tower, which is considered to be the tallest wooden building in Europe.

The interior of the church is richly painted. Romanian churches are characterized by abundant painting in the interior and often in the exterior.
