Visit of Imam Mosque

The most beautiful view of the mosque is from the center of Esfahan – Imam Square, also called Naqsh-e Jahan (Image of the World Square).

 

The entrance to the mosque itself is breathtaking – noticeable landmark is iwan beautifully decorated with thousands of tiles.
 

Once you enter to the main courtyard of the mosque, you will see even nicer iwan with another two minarets in front of the dome.

The entire main courtyard of the mosque is built with structures shielding the prayer rugs – this is obviously appreciated by the praying believers, but not by the tourists and photographers.

The entire interior of the mosque is an amazing work of art. Of course, blue color prevails here.

The most amazing is, of course, the view of the main dome.
 

If the dome was the most amazing, then the view at iwan from the bottom is the most magical.

Definitely set off for a walk around the mosque also from its other less often walked side after seeing the interior.

Walk through the passage on the southeast corner of the square Naqsh-e Jahan and after a while you get to the vast, almost deserted, commons behind the mosque. From there you can see it from a slightly different perspective.

 

Also at the back of the mosque is a small entrance to the complex, but it is probably closed all the time. The dome is currently being restored (as of 7/2014).
 

Nice is also the rear view of the goldast over the western iwan.
 

Imam Mosque is beautifully lighted in the evening, so it is definitely worth to see the square Naqsh-e Jahan not only during the day, but also in the night.
