Tour of the city of Mahon

Mahón has a very specific atmosphere. Unlike Cuitadella, which is very historical, here history is present but not dominant. The city seems very airy and pleasant. The streets are lively but not crowded.

There is a beautiful historic building right next to the church. It was disappointing when we found out that it was a municipal office.

Mahon surrounds the harbor bay. The town itself is located on a rock, which adds to its overall atmosphere.

While wandering through Mahon, don't miss the small Placa del Carme. Another of the local beautiful churches is located here.

The interior of the marketplace can also be visited on the aforementioned square. Currently, however, there are more independent shops.

Mahon hides many interesting corners, hidden squares, alleys and restaurants.

Mahon also offers a number of vantage points with beautiful views of the harbour. Not only cruise ships, but also cargo ships, ferries and private luxury yachts are moored here.

Another interesting place is the Inglesia de San Francisco. Next to the church itself is the Museum of Menorca, which can be visited.

If you park near the port, it's nice to get into the city using the elevator. One really appreciates it in the hot climate here. Parking is more complicated in Mahon. There is an underground parking lot in the center for a fee. The largest parking lot can be found right next to the port. However, it took us a good twenty minutes to find out if we had to pay a parking fee here. The best option is to go to Mahon by bus, as basically all connections go here.

Mahon is a beautiful town that lives at its own pace. The siesta is strictly observed here. At two o'clock all the shops close and open again around five. However, restaurants are usually open at this time as well.
