Between Thibab and Bimmah you will find one of the great Omani attractions – Bimmah Sinkhole. It is a lake measuring 50×70m deep below the surrounding surface. Locals believe it is the work of a meteorite, but it is more of a remnant of a cave. There is a holiday for swimming in the pond and there are also small fish that will be happy to bite your feet. In addition, there is a well-kept park, so it is a very pleasant stop.

Road to Bimmah Sinkhole

The very arrival to the lake is worth it. Directly opposite you rises the arid Hajar Mountains with peaks over 1,500 meters above sea level and only 7 km from the sea as the crow flies. The turn to the lake is from the old road, so make sure you get off the highway in time.

Park around the lake

The lake is located inside the fenced park Hawiyat Najm Park. The greenery in the otherwise desert landscape is here only thanks to the massive irrigation. Admission is not paid here, but there is an opening time from 9 am. We arrived early in the morning, but the guard let us in safely and we had everything just to ourselves – great :-)
