The Silesian House (Schronisko Górskie „Dom Śląski”) is a Polish hostel located on the Silesian ridge at an altitude of 1400 m above sea level, only 20 meters beyond the Czech-Polish border. Thanks to its location right at the foot of Sněžka, it is certainly one of the most attractive accommodation opportunities in the Krkonoše Mountains. It offers the opportunity to sleep comfortably, eat well and also enjoy the sunset or sunrise under the highest peak of the Giant Mountains.

Position

The hostel is located in a very attractive place from where you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the Giant Mountains and the valley of Karpacz. It is only one kilometer to the top of Sněžka. In front of the Silesian House there is an important crossroads for hiking and winter skiing trails on cross-country skis, scalps and snowshoes. It is only a 20-minute walk from the upper station of the Kopa cable car belonging to the „Karpacz Ski Arena“ ski area.

History

In the pass under Sněžka, there was a cottage in the 17th century, serving as a shelter for lumberjacks and shepherds. In 1847, the first mountain hut was built here on the Silesian side of the Giant Mountains. The current building is the third building built on this site, it was built in 1921–1922. In 1923, a glass porch was added to the original building and the kitchen rooms were rebuilt. After the war, it came under the administration of the Polish Tatra Society, and in 1950–2005 the shed served the border guards. It is currently in private hands and provides accommodation and catering services to the public.
