Visiting and bathing in the Caspian Sea was one of the destinations on the way to Iran for two reasons, because there are no crowds of tourists and also because it is one of the lowest cities in the world. The choice fell on the town of Mahmud Abad, because there was the main road from Tehran and we did not find much information about this town. Was it a good idea or not?

The town of Mahmud abad is one of the smaller towns in Iran (approximately 28,000 inhabitants), located on the shores of the Caspian Sea. Historically, the city has not much to offer, but it can become a starting point for trekking in the beech forests around the Caspian Sea. We used the city to rest after the descent from Mount Damavand. The best way to get to and from the city is by VIP buses, which go directly to and from Tehran, or all the way to the south of Shiraz.

Local snacks

When Western fast food is banned in the country, the locals will create their own according to their model.

Construction boom

When the money runs out, it is difficult to build hotels on the coast, but after the release of sanctions, it is possible that Iran will try to make the city a tourist center in the north of the country, because there are a large number of completed, but especially unfinished hotels.

Empty beaches

In the „old“ part of the city there are deserted beaches, which are not guarded, but are unfortunately supplemented by signs prohibiting swimming, and Iran is not exactly a country that is tolerant of those who break the law.

Beaches

People are gradually approaching the beaches to a newer part of town, but it is not possible to expect someone to wear a swimsuit.

The emerging promenade

The first beaches and promenades on the coast are already being created in the „newer“ part of the city.

Promenade

While walking along the coast, you can eventually come across an already completed promenade, where people begin to increase and lead us gradually to the official beach.

A beach full of extremes

From a distance, it can be seen that people only bathe in two small areas surrounded by perpendiculars, one part being separated only for women and the other for both women and men. Lifeguards will make sure that no man enters the women's section, and I will also cut out so that you do not move away from the demarcated sections and do not want to „sail“ to one of the neighboring countries by chance.

Swimming

If you take a close look at the beach, you will find that it is not possible for women to bathe exposed, but they must be completely covered so that they cannot see anything, and men must also have swimsuits that are knee-deep and only a few daredevils go swimming without a T-shirt. , most men bathe in a T-shirt. Only young children can violate these prohibitions and can swim in a bathing suit, but girls must still wear a T-shirt.

Disgust from swimming

When you look at the showers in front of which there are about 30 cm rats, the desire to bathe passes and leaves away from the beach and the city itself as quickly as possible.

Summary

To go or not to go?

Finally, after looking at the beaches, the city and the fact that it has no historical or otherwise tourist attractions, I do not recommend visiting this city, because it is a walk that takes a day to explore interesting places in Iran, which the country has enough and this clearly does not belong to them.
