The Labský dol hike is one of the most famous and romantic hikes in the Giant Mountains. In addition, the journey itself through this canyon of the Elbe River is relatively simple, until the final ascent to the Elbe Hut. In addition, you will come across beautiful waterfalls here, such as the beautiful Malý Labský waterfall and the highest waterfall in the Czech Republic – Pančavský. Just before the end of the route, a third interesting waterfall awaits you – Labský.

Romantic Elbe

The hike through the Labský dol starts in Špindlerův Mlýn, or if you want to shorten it a bit (about 1 km), then at the parking lot at the cable car to Medvědín. Just a short distance from the cable car station, the river has nice romantic passages with rock gardens.

Elbe dams

Already from Špindlerův Mlýn, you will see a whole series of weirs on the Elbe. But the biggest one is only a short distance from the intersection U Dívčí lávky.

Rópík under Dívčí straní

Even on this hike, you can see a part of the First Republic fortifications – a light building called the řopík. It stands just a short distance from the crossroads U Dívčí lávky. From here we turn left onto Labské dol. However, a very beautiful path also leads to the right side – „Hiking through the White Elbe Valley“: https://www.gigaplaces.com/…bileho-labe/

Small Elbe waterfall

The path continues to climb comfortably along the Elbe to the first real attraction on this hike – the Little Elbe Waterfall. Its height is about 5 meters. It is watery all year round.

Stone plates

Just a short distance above the Malý Labský waterfall there are nice stone plates. An ideal place for a break.

Pudlava

At the Pudlava, a predatory river, interesting especially in early spring, when it has the most water, a comfortable asphalt road ends. There is also a ban on bicycles and a classic mountain footpath. Families with small children usually come here.

The path through the Elbe mine

From Pudlava, the true path begins with Labský dolem. The surrounding walls of the canyon exceed you by more than 400 meters in height.

Rock fortresses

Massive rocks rise above the Labský mine like some kind of rock fortresses.

View of the Pančava waterfall

One of the best awaits you on this hike – a view of the highest waterfall in the Czech Republic. The Pančava waterfall is 148 meters high. In order to enjoy it properly, do this hike early in the spring, when the snow melts and there is always a lot of water in it.

View of Labská bouda

The destination of this hike – Labská bouda – can already be seen from the road. It towers almost on the edge of the canyon, so this view assures you that the finish will be the most challenging.

Meanders of the Elbe in Elbe mine

In contrast to the steep walls, the bottom of the canyon is very flat in these places, and otherwise in the Krkonoše Mountains, the wildly flowing Elbe here even meanders in several curves

Rock walls above the Elbe

The road begins to climb sharply with twists and turns and you approach a massive rock wall.

Lookout at the gorge

Halfway through the final ascent to the Labská bouda, you can take a rest at the viewpoint of the Labská gorge below the Labská waterfall. There is also a small table, but unfortunately tourists also accumulate here. It is the most beautiful here at the end of spring, when you will come across remnants of snow.

An impressive view of the Labské mine

You are finally approaching the goal and you are rewarded for the energy spent with a wonderful view of the Labský dol.

The last meters before Labská bouda

Just before the end of the hike, you can still admire the beauty of the Giant Mountains.

Above the Elbe waterfall

As a last optional walk, run from the Labská bouda to the viewpoint of the Labská waterfall. The only downside is that you can only look at it from above.

You can have refreshments or stay in the large Labska bouda
