Along with the ascent to Lysá hora, a walk from Pusteven to Radhošť mountain (1,129 m above sea level) is the most classic hike you can take in the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy. In addition, it is a ridge hike without major climbs, so you will meet a lot of families with children and cyclists. Beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, including the Lesser Fatra in Slovakia, await you almost all the way. On this hike you will conquer two peaks – both Radhošť and Radegast

Pustevny

This hike begins in the saddle of Pustevny (1,018 m above sea level), which is famous for its beautiful folk buildings. Unfortunately, a large part of them burned down. Fortunately, reconstruction is planned. You can get to the saddle (excluding hiking trails) by a mountain road from the Bečva valley or from the north by the Raztoka chairlift. Thanks to the fact that the saddle is so easily accessible, expect good crowds on weekends in good weather on weekends. So it pays to really get up.

Refreshments on the hike

You will definitely not be on this short hike about hunger and thirst. South of Pusteven, along the blue hiking trail is a variety of snacks. Another awaits you at the statue of Radegast and then just below the top of Radhoště is a large mountain hotel Radegast.

View of Čertův Mlýn and Kněhyn

The surroundings of Pusteven are quite deforested and there is a nice view of some of the highest peaks of the Beskydy Mountains such as Kněhyně (1,257 m above sea level) and Čertův Mlýn (1,206 m above sea level), where you can go along the red hiking trail.

Ascent to the gazebo Cyrilka

Basically at the very beginning is the steepest ascent of the whole tour – to the gazebo Cyrilka. Until a few years ago there was a nice view of Pustevny and much further. Unfortunately, the vegetation grows for life. It would take some harsher forester here and restore the view.

The first view of Podbeskydí

After a short journey through the forest, don't forget to turn to the first beautiful view of Podbeskydí, located 700 meters below. The destination of this tour Radhošť can also be seen on the horizon.

Radegast - Old Slavic god of abundance

You will hardly notice that you have overcome the first peak on this hike – Radegast (1,106 m above sea level) and you are already at the statue of the same name of this god. However, it is pleasant here only very early in the morning or in the evening, otherwise the crowds of other tourists accumulate here.

Picturesque meadows on the ridge

Between Radegast and another hill on the ridge (1,103) there are quite a few hupes by local conditions, where slightly dangerous cyclists will whistle around you. The picturesque landscape is completed by the beautiful ridge meadows.

View from the ski slope

From the second mountain on this hike (1,103 m above sea level) there is a ski slope, so thanks to that there is another very nice view from here to Podbeskydí.

View of Pustevny and Lysá hora

From the ski slope there is also a nice rear view of Pustevny, from where you set off and to the highest mountain of the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy – Lysá hora

The most picturesque part of the tour

After about another ten minutes of walking, the most picturesque part of the whole ridge tour begins. There are peak meadows with a beautiful view of the south to hundreds of other hills such as. Maple trees. In good weather you can see the Low Fatra far away in Slovakia.

View of the Low Fatra

Just in front of the mountain hotel Radegast is the best view of the Low Fatra. Of course, from a photographic point of view, it is much better to be here in the evening.

Mountain cottage Radegast

After an hour of free walking from Pusteven, you are at the large mountain hut Radegast. Almost everyone refreshes themselves here, so there is a rumble almost all day.

At the top of Radhoště

Not far from the cottage is the highest point of the whole tour – the top of the mountain Radhošť (1,129 m above sea level). There is a beautiful church and a group of statues of Cyril and Methodius.

View of the Bečva valley

There is not such an amazing view from Radhoště itself, but for example the valley of Bečva with Rožnov can be seen nicely.

Chapel of St. Cyril and Methodius

The wooden church in the Byzantine style on the top of Radhoště is really beautiful.

Where next?

  • Most often tourists return the same way back, which is even a little easier than there – Next you can go down to Rožňov pod Radhoštěm or continue to the top of the big Javorník
