Studenec is a village that most people pass through on their way to the Giant Mountains. From here, you can take a pleasant hike around the top of Stráž (630 m above sea level) with beautiful views of the Giant Mountains and the impressive church in Zálesní Lhota

Church of St. John the Baptist in Studenec

The ideal place to start this circuit is the church of St. John the Baptist. You can park comfortably next to it

Beginning of the tour

It is definitely worth a look at the church, at least for a while. Next door is a small castle. From here, take a comfortable dirt road in the direction of Horka Hill (593 m above sea level), which is a not very distinctive ridge right in front of you

View of Kozinec

Looking back (to the south) you can see the Kozince massif, another nice lookout hill in the Giant Mountains

Na Horce

The path will take you to the hill on Horka, from where there are the first views of the Giant Mountains. Along the way, you will enjoy that you will probably not meet anyone else here except the locals. Here are just a few holiday homes. He wants to have the map online on his mobile, because there are no tourist signs. In addition, from Horka the road leads through meadows and is no longer so obvious.

View of the Giant Mountains

After the path through the meadow will lead you to the forest, you will descend about 250 meters before you come across a significantly better logging path leading along the contour line. Here turn right and after another 350 meters turn down the footpath that will take you from the forest to the meadows with an amazing view of the Giant Mountains

Sightseeing trip not only to the Giant Mountains

Now comes the most beautiful part of the circuit where we can walk through a meadow on the edge of the forest and enjoy the beautiful view of the northern part of the Giant Mountains, the Giant Mountains and the majestic church in Zálesní Lhota. If the meadow was uncut or wet, you can go a few tens of meters lower along a nice path, which we will connect to in time.

Ascent under the Guard

The path slowly turns back, so you can enjoy the last view of Zálesní Lhota and the Krkonoše ridge. The road approaches the main busy road leading to Vrchlabí or Špindlerův Mlýn, but just before it you connect to the local access road to the cottages situated just below the top of the hill

View of the Giant Mountains

On the way, you ascend to the crossroads „Pod Stráž u Studence“, where for the first time on this circuit you will connect to a tourist path (red trail connecting Horní Brana with Nová Paka). There is a nice view to the south from here

Guard top

If you want to climb the hill that you have been bypassing all the time, go from the crossroads along the path leading to the mobile operator's pole and in places where it turns sharply, take a circular forest path that will take you to the top. There's nothing to see, but it's not, so in a way it's a useless walk.

Quarry in Studenec

You descend along the red hiking trail down the direction of Studenec. If you want to make another interesting view, turn left at the forest on a dirt road (not on mapy.cz) and after a while along the meadow straight up to the edge of the quarry

End of circuit

After the red tourist you will get to the main road, which we cross and continue to the local road, which we walk back to the church and close the circuit
