One of the most popular trips from Copacabana is a cruise to the island of the Sun. It is much more interesting to sail only one way and the other to walk along the shores of Lake Titcaca and enjoy the beautiful bays, rocks protruding from the water and interesting local life. This route is about 15 kilometers long and leads most of the road on a slightly busy coastal road.

View of Cerro Calvaria

Orientation on this tour is very easy. Stay along the shores of Lake Titicaca at all times. So head northeast from Copacabana. From the outskirts of the city is a nice view of the local landmark – Cerro Calvaria.

View of Copacabana

The first two kilometers pass quickly. The road leads along the largest bay on this route. Over time, an interesting view opens up back to Copacabana.

Islands on Titication

The first really nice place on this tour is a small port where trout are bred and in addition there are small rocks rising from the lake.

Rocky islands

In this place you really burn out for a while to stay and enjoy the beautiful Lake Titicaca.

Ascent to the viewpoint on Titicac

In these places, it is also possible to climb the adjacent hill of almost 4,000 and enjoy the panoramic view of the lake.

Under the lookout rock

After you enjoy the view of the lake, you need to climb off the rock. Fortunately, there is also a footpath that will take you among the farm houses. The north wall of the hill is decently steep and impassable for a normal tourist.

Picturesque bay

This second bay is terribly more picturesque than the first, just behind Copacabana. The lookout hill from this side looks like a decent rock.

Amazing view of Titicac

At the end of the bay rises a huge rock and the road goes around it with a big walk inland, which is probably the least interesting part of the road. If you are at least a little adventurous and want to climb another beautiful viewpoint, turn off the road in a small pass and from there climb the lookout ridge.

View of a beautiful bay

Great is the view on the other side to another amazing bay on Lake Titicaca. The peaks on the sacred island of the Sun can already be seen on the horizon.

Titicaca like the sea

At the end of the ridge, the view is the best. Lake Titicaca looks like a sea that has flooded the landscape of rocks.

Challenging descent

As the path along the ridge was relatively pleasant, the descent is definitely the most difficult passage of the whole tour. There is no trail here, so you just have to put it on your intuition.

Fairytale bay

After descending the hill you will reach a beautiful bay, where there is a lively fishing life.

Reed ship

In the bay you can come across the original reed boats. For a small fee, the locals will take you around the lake and show you the local trout ponds. The boat dock to the island of the Sun is still about six kilometers away.
