The biggest attraction nearby provincial town of Dogubayazit is a beautiful Ottoman palace of Ishak Pasha. If you want to explore also the surrounding colorful volcanic landscape and life of local Kurds, there is nothing easier than to go to the palace on foot. Local taxi drivers offering their services will be shaking their heads seeing this.

You would not guess it, because the sun will be shining to your eyes the whole time, but the ideal time to visit is early noon. There are then the most beautiful views of the palace from the hills on its east and south side.

View of Dogubayazit

The path rises between fields in volcanic landscape. Dogubayazit lying on the upland plateau gradually disappears in the mist. Around you will pass only a few taxi drivers who will be very surprised that you walk and a couple of local women to make their shopping.

Dwellings under the palace

Some of the houses look more like stables for animals, but satellites suggest that people living here have also TV.
