The settlement of Gokyo (4 773 m asl) located below the side moraine of the largest glacier in Kumbu Ngozumba is the tourist attraction mainly due to the adjacent hill Gokyo Ri (5 366 m asl), from which is stunning view of Everest, Lhotse and other peaks. However, it can offer a far more interesting walks leading along the glacier in the direction to the majestic Cho Oyu.

Lake Dudh Pokhari

The settlement of Gokyo is very nicely laid right on the lake Dudh Pokhari (4 750 m asl). The walk here or around the lake (circuit length is about 3 km) is very pleasant acclimatization trip.

Glacier Ngozumba

Another popular and easily accessible outlook point is only 50 altitude meters above the village – side moraine of the glacier Ngozumba. If weather permits, you can see on the horizon also the majestic Cho Oyu. The glacier is huge, has a kilometer in width. It looks like a gigantic highway full of debris.

Mountains above the glacier Ngozumba

There is a series of lakes sparkling among the rubble on the glacier. In addition, the glacier constantly slowly moves, so the way to the other side to Dragnang and on into the pass Cho La is constantly changing. You had better consult locals before you set out across the glacier.
