Article Ascent to Olympus

Litochoro, 90 km from Thessaloniki, is the starting point for the trek. From here you can start to climb around the river Enipea to the Prionia car park, the road is definitely worth seeing. However, if you don't have that much time, you can get to the mentioned car park by car, taxi or hitchhiking. However, everyone has to get their own way from the car park. We ascend from an altitude of 1100 m above sea level along probably the most paved path far and wide. If you already have trouble pulling your luggage here, you can pay for a mule and go for lightness not only with your weight but also with your wallet. Such relief costs 50 Euros. From Prionia it is to the cottage Spilios Agapitos, sometimes referred to as cottage A, less than five kilometers and a thousand high meters. It is necessary to count on booking accommodation in the cottage in advance, it is quickly filled, but even if it is already full, it is possible to set up a tent next to the cottage in designated places. Early in the morning, the cottage sets off for the final ascent, the path is initially lined with trees, first deciduous, then coniferous, and finally you only walk on rubble and stones. Don't be fooled that more people are standing and sitting on the first visible peak. The reason is clear you are standing at the foot of Skala and for some holiday tourists this peak becomes final. The top of Mytikas is in sight, but it takes a little confidence when walking and also a little climbing, there is no time for dizziness. Sometimes this path is also called „bad stairway“.
