Guardian of the Moravian Gate
Above the quiet village of Starý Jičín lies the extensive ruins of the castle of the same name. From the center of the village it is about a kilometer and 100 meters above sea level, so it is a relatively easy and short walk. The castle boasts a restored tower. outside it, entry to the site is free. From the castle there are beautiful views in practically all directions.

Church of St. Wenceslas in Starý Jičín
The dominant feature of the town is the massive church of St. Wenceslas. From there, the ascent to the forested Starojický hill (496 m above sea level) begins, on which the castle sits.
In front of the castle gate
After a 15-minute climb uphill, you are under the castle walls. Fortunately, the top of the hill is devoid of vegetation, so fortunately the view from the ruins is not much disturbed.
Castle tower
The reconstructed castle tower is the main attraction of the castle and you will see it in most of the photos from this place. Admission to it is paid, but as a bonus there is an exhibition exposition. Refreshments also work well here.
The main part of the ruins
However, the main part of the ruins is still above you. It doesn't even seem so large from here.
Panorama of the preserved part of the castle
When climbing to the top of the hill, you can see the whole panorama of the preserved part of the castle. It's a really nice place to spend time with lots of benches.
The top of the castle
Although it does not seem from below, the ruins are quite large.
Massive fortifications of the Starý Jičín castle
From the side you can see how massive the fortifications were and the castle must have had several floors.
The end of the castle
The southern end of the castle ends with a massive rock. Right on the adjacent, smaller promontory, however, there are other smaller remnants of the fortifications.
Mysterious underground castle
During the tour, be careful where you step, because the possibility of falling into the castle underground is in several places. I wouldn't be surprised if mysterious stories were tied to him.
View of the Beskydy and Podbeskydí
In addition, the castle has a beautiful view of the Beskydy Mountains. Of course, with good visibility and ideal for photographers in the afternoon.
