The Battle of the Nations Memorial (Völkerschlachtdenkmal) is located southeast of the center of Leipzig. It is reminiscent of the Battle of Leipzig in October 1813, in which Prussia and its allies defeated Napoleon. With a height of 91 meters, it is the largest building of its kind in Europe. The author of the monument is the German architect Bruno Schmitz. The foundation stone was laid in 1898 and the building was inaugurated to mark the centenary of the battle on October 18, 1913.
