The village between the boulders
In the eastern part of Portugal, a short distance from the border with Spain, lies the village of Monsanto, in which it seems as if time has stopped. The original inhabitants built their dwellings here between the boulders, which are often larger than the houses themselves. The village in 1938 even won the national competition for the „most portuguese village“, which led to increased tourism. However, local people still managed to preserve the original romantic appearance
