Stone village hidden in the hills
There is no doubt that Portuguese cities such as Porto, Lisbon and Aveiro are among the pride of Portugal, but it must be added that the countryside is not left behind either. Especially less visited tourist areas hide those real gems that have managed to preserve their historic charm to this day, and one such village is Piodão.

Alleys in Piodãu
Narrow streets, cobbled with stones, are interconnected by many stairs that lead between the houses. They are all so similar that it is very easy to get lost here, despite a lot of indicators.
Church of Igreja Matriz
Right on the edge of the village, overlooking the main square, stands a beautiful blue and white painted church, whose historical roots date back to the seventeenth century.
Foz de Égua
Just a few minutes by car from Piodãa lies the small settlement of Foz de Égua, where two streams flow. At this place there are two connected stone bridges and a little higher there is a third bridge, this time a wooden one. Thanks to the charm of this place, newlywed couples are often seen here, who are photographed in various poses, and if you want to have a photo without them, you have to wait.
Suspension Bridge
Unfortunately, the suspension bridge over Foz de Égua was closed at the time of our visit.
Chapel
If you climb to the top of the village of Foz de Égua, you will reach a small prayer room with a statue of the Virgin Mary, which is surrounded by a stone wall in the style of local houses.
Tower
The highest mountain in mainland Portugal
From Piodã or Foz de Égua you can take a small trip to the highest mountain in mainland Portugal – Torre: [http://www.gigaplaces.com/misto-torre/]. You can drive here in less than an hour and from there you can continue to the village of Monsanto: [http://www.gigaplaces.com/…ky-monsanto/], which since 1938 has been proud of the title of „most Portuguese village“, which received in a national competition.
