Place Elgin

60 km east of Inverness is the demolished cathedral in Elgin. It is one of the most famous in Scotland. The cathedral was founded in 1224. It was burned down several times. It experienced the greatest damage in 1390, when it was burned down with the town by Alexander Stewart, the son of King Robert II, called the Wolf of Banenoch. Since then, the cathedral has slowly fallen into disrepair and has been dismantled to build the surrounding buildings. The remains preserved to this day show how magnificent the building was.
