Čičmany is a village located in the valley of Strážovské vrchy, at the source of the river Rajčianka. It is the highest situated village in the district of Žilina. The first mention dates back to 1272. The village is known for its ancient and unique architecture – painted log cabins. For their rescue, its lower part in 1977 was declared a monumental reservation of folk architecture. The village is also interesting with local folk costumes and embroidery with geometric ornamentation.
