Volcano above the city of Antigua
The inactive stratovolcano ** Agua ** (translated as „water“) 3765m high rises above the historically important center of ** Antigua **. It was named after the lake in its crater, which overflowed in the 16th century and destroyed the then capital ** Ciudad Vieja **. After that, the capital became ** Antigua **, until 1773, when it was destroyed by an earthquake. The most beautiful view of the volcano is from the ** Mirador de La Cruz ** in ** Antigua **.
