Visit to the open-air museum in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm

The real origin of the museum was in 1925. At that time, two timbered houses from Rožnov Square were moved to the clearing of the spa park, together with other smaller buildings, which gave rise to the area of the so-called Wooden Town.

It is a set of burgher buildings, including equipment depicting how the burghers of that time lived. For each building, the history of the building is often given, including a description of how many people lived here, what they ate, etc.

The founders themselves were aware that the city part of the museum does not sufficiently tell about the ways of life in the whole of Wallachia, and therefore they strived for the realization of the village area. The plan to build the Wallachian village originated in the early 1950s, and a decade later the construction of the first timbered cottages and farm buildings began.

The Wallachian village is picturesquely located in the countryside. Individual unique buildings were transferred here, or copies were built. In addition to individual cottages and homesteads, you can also see a school or a smithy. If you are lucky, you can also talk here with a period teacher or a baking pan.

Even in Valašská dědina, it is possible to enter almost all buildings and see the equipped, although often very cramped, interior. It is also possible to read the history of the building and the people living in each of the buildings.

Mlýnská dolina is the third area of the Wallachian Museum in nature, with functional historical buildings powered by water – a mill mill, a sawmill, an oil press or, for example, a hammer mill. Unlike the previous parts of the museum, the Mlýnská valley is accessible only with a guide. Each part of the museum has its own entrance and a separate entrance fee. The largest part is Valašská dolina.
