Japan offers countless opportunities to travel, but if you are limited in time and still want to see the maximum of these beautiful islands, you will call it in 7–10 days. I recommend buying a Rail Pass, which can only be purchased outside of Japan, because it is intended for tourists. We had a 7-day Rail Pass and to travel around Tokyo we always bought a one-day ticket to the local public transport metro.

Day 1 - 2

Tour of Tokyo

You could spend a whole week in Tokyo and there would still be something to discover. But if you are pressed for time, the most important thing can be achieved in 2 days.

Day 3

The sacred island of Miyajima

After a tour of an overcrowded modern city like Tokyo, a little nature and a more peaceful trip to the very south of the main island of Honshu, to the sacred island of Miyajima, will certainly come in handy. Although the distance from Tokyo is over 800 km, Shinkansen can be reached from below in 3 hours.

Day 4 - 5

Kyoto and surroundings

The tour of Kyoto itself definitely deserves attention for the whole, especially for enthusiasts of history and Japanese culture. Kyoto is full of geishas, teahouses and huts. In the end, we spent only half a day in the city and the remaining half was dedicated to the monkey park and bamboo grove around the city.

On the way from Kyoto back north to Tokyo, the majestic Fuji Volcano is not to be missed. Whether you are planning to conquer it or plan to enjoy the view of its silhouette while walking around the lake under the mountain, this stop is definitely worth it.

7th - 8th day

North Hokkaido Island

The journey from the center of the central island of Honshu to the northern island of Hokkaido is still a nice distance even for super fast shinkansen. We managed to spend the night in the city of Sendai in the north of the island of Honshu, and the next day we continued on to the north island. If you have more time, it is worth spending at least 2 or more days to travel here.
