If you come to the red village Abyaneh belonging among the oldest in Iran, definitely go to see the local fort Palahamooneh lying on the other side of the valley. More than the building itself will enchant you the amazing panoramic view from here. You will have at your fingertips not only the entire Abyaneh, but also surrounding ridges. The best time to visit is in the morning, when you will have sun at your back.

Below the castle

Castle Palahamooneh is actually just a simple rectangular fortress with a bastion in every corner. It stands on an arid upland plain only 25 altitude meters above the bottom of the oasis. There are two pathways leading here – either directly up the steeper path or relatively big detour through the upland plain.

In the castle

You will get to the castle through one of the few holes in ancient ramparts. The fort is protected by the cliff only from one side. On the other side are several hundred meters wide plains and thus the enemies attack would certainly be more likely from here.

Life-giving oasis in Abyaneh

Not only the town but also the entire oasis is clearly visible from the castle. The surroundings of the town are formed by both arid mountain ridges as well as extensive upland desert plains. Only thanks to the snow over the winter there is plenty of water throughout the year.
