Beach with big waves
Just outside the historic center of Arkasa is the beautiful beach of Agios Nicolaos. Due to the fact that it lies on the windward west coast, relatively large waves are often made here. It is terminated on both sides by rock peaks, on which you can make a nice short ascent.
On the beach of Agios Nicolaos
Agios Nicolaos beach is sandy and almost 200 meters long. From here you have a beautiful view of the mountain towering over the ancient city of Arkasa. The output is described „here“: https: //www.gigaplaces.com/clanek-staroveka-arkasa/
Rock in the south
To the south is also a limestone mountain, only slightly lower, but also with excellent views, making it an ideal destination.
Start of ascent
Just behind the southern end of the beach, the cliffs and footpath begin through a hole in the fence.
Ascent path
the ascent path to the saddle between the main peak and the smaller limestone rocks is quite obvious. The route leads through a semi-desert landscape.
The power of nature
The power of life and nature is proved by these white blooming flowers living in completely inhospitable sandy stony soil.
Mountain top view
The road does not lead to its own peak. Be sure not to climb there directly from under the wall, but first ascend to the saddle, from where it is already quite easy and short ascent.
Beach view
The views are getting better and better, not only to the beach, but practically in all directions.
View of Kasos
To the south, the landscape is less interesting and rather flatter. The sparsely populated island of Kasos can be seen on the horizon
View of Arkasa
The view of Arkasa and the mountains behind it is absolutely great. Return back the same way.
