Szlak Orlich Gniazd is a tourist route through the ruins of castles, chateaux and fortresses between Kraków and Częstochowa.

Olsztyn

Our journey through the eagles' nests began at the ruins of Olsztyn, about 15 km from Czestochowa. Wikipedia says this about the area we went to this time: the Kraków-Częstochowa Jurassic or the Kraków-Częstochowa Highlands (Polish: Wyżyna Krakowsko-Częstochowska, Jura Krakowsko-Częstochowska) is a geomorphological karst area in southern Poland (Lesser Poland and Silesian Voivodeship). It is a limestone highland 300 to 515 m high, in the territory of which there are a large number of rock formations, caves and the ruins of medieval castles, which are called eagle's nests (Polish eagle gniazda).

Castle or rock?

As in other places on the Jura, there are many limestone rock formations that pose to tourists and photographers for years.

Pustynia Siedlecka

We drove from Olsztyn to the desert. The first sandy desert on our route was the Siedlecká desert. Access to it is free, although it is smaller, but if you want to visit a large sandpit, do not hesitate. You and your children will like it here. Pine forests grow around the desert and the air smells wonderfully of resin.

Large sandpit

Not many tourists come here, but we met the locals with an offroad, cyclists, hikers and a couple of ATVs the next day.

Peace

The next stop was the ruins of Mirów Castle. From Mirów you can see the neighboring renovated castle Bobolice.

Entrance gate to Bobolice

When you go to Bobolice to the castle, be sure to walk through this rock gate.

Imprints of history

You can find beautiful fossilized ammonites on the stones in Bobolice.

Berries

Beautifully renovated Bobolice castle. As we read on the memorial plaque, no money from European subsidies was used to repair it. ;-) The castle is now owned by the Lasecký family, thanks to its condition, Senator Jaroslaw Lasecki and his brother.

And we move on ...

These were a few places we visited during the extended weekend in the Kraków-Częstochowa Jurassic. But not all of them. We started at Czestochowa and gradually continued down to Krakow. A few more nice and interesting stops are waiting for us, I will add the sequel soon. You still have something to look forward to.
