Porto Alegre, with a population of over one and a half million, is the largest city in southern Brazil and also the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. From a distance you will be amazed by the panorama of high-rise buildings. It's not that interesting anymore. It is more a starting point for other trips than a travel destination

Central Station Station

The bus station in Porto Alegre is huge and the number of taxis in front of it is also impressive. Firstly, it is a large city and also lies on the main line of Buenos Aires – Sao Paulo

Our Lady's Dream Church

Don't expect to find many sights even in the historic center of this lively city. One of the interesting buildings is the snow-white church of Igreja Nossa Senhora das Dores

Paço Municipal de Porto Alegre

Another interesting building is the local town hall. Of course surrounded by local blocks of flats.

City life

If you are traveling in South America, you will surely know the shift to Brazil right away – the number of different homeles and zwlíři is increasing rapidly. Usually you don't even speak Spanish, let alone English. The population is more diverse, there are many national minorities. In addition, southern Brazil is significantly more European than the rest of the country in terms of the appearance of the locals.

Where to go from Porto Alegre

You can buy fruit here for a good price. For lunch, the popular style is buffet libre – whatever you eat in various variants. Overall, Porto Alegre is more of a city for watching local life and sightseeing than it would be a big attraction. Just a gateway to southern Brazil and a starting point for super parks in the nearby mountains.
