Mostar is a city in Bosnia and Herzegovina located on the river Neretva. It is one of the largest cities in this state. Mostar is known mainly for its historic core with the Old Bridge.

View from the Old Bridge

The city of Mostar is a mixture of many cultures and architectural styles. People of different religions live side by side without any conflicts. We find both a number of Christian churches and mosques.

Old bridge

The dominant feature of the town is the Old Bridge over the Neretva River, built during the Ottoman era. The bridge served its purpose for 427 years until 1993, when it was destroyed during the Civil War along with most of the city. As it was an important monument, the bridge was restored and reopened in 2004. It is now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The bridge is 29 meters long and 4 meters wide.

Jumps from the bridge

The bridge is 24 meters above the river. The local attraction is men who jump from a bridge into a river after collecting enough money. These people make a living from this and train the next generation of boys who will take over this „craft“ after them.

Modern architecture

One of the unmissable landmarks of the city is a new Christian church with a tower higher than 100 meters. From this tower there is a beautiful view of the city and its surroundings.

View of the city

Mostar is located in a valley. If you come here from Croatia, where it is around 35 degrees, be prepared that it will be much warmer in Mostar. Temperatures here rise up to 50 ° C.
