If we set about 2 km from the center of Slavonice following the red tourist sign, we will find a perfectly reconstructed fortress area, which is an example of part of the defensive fortress line built in 1935–38 as a defensive wall against the expected German army attack against Czechoslovakia.

Defensive line of bunkers and obstacles

The beautifully reconstructed complex consists of a system of observation and firing intersections, supplemented by anti-infantry and anti-tank barriers in the length of almost 200 m. There are a total of 11 reconstructed bunkers model 37 (so-called asparagus). We can well imagine the situation during the mobilization in September 1938.

Accessible concrete bunkers with equipment

There are a total of 11 reconstructed small bunkers in the area, which were called řopíky. Upon agreement, two of them are open to the public. We can see fully equipped and armed bunkers. Inside are, for example, the original machine guns, rifles, pistols and submachine guns, functional hand fan and observation periscopes, crew equipment and other equipment. Interestingly, during the Cold War (1949 – 1989), the bunkers were reactivated and ready for operation again. Therefore, one bunker is shown in the 1938 version and the other from 1963. The bunkers are accessible with expert interpretation of the guide in May, June and September on weekends, in July and August daily. You can arrange a possible individual tour by calling 606 124 829. For those who have a deeper interest in the issue, there is also a museum right in Slavonice, Žižkova Street No. 4.
