In the very south of the island of Rhodes, you will find a peninsula that you can walk around and discover a lighthouse or a former observatory. This peninsula is connected to the mainland by the double beach of Prasonisi, which is washed by the Mediterranean on one side and the Aegean Sea on the other. It is even flooded during high tide, so the two seas come together all the more. Thanks to the optimal weather conditions, water sports such as kitesurfing and windsurfing have been widely practiced here since the nineties.

Prasonisi beach

An interesting tip for a trip is to take a car or bus (departs from the capital) to the south of the island for the unusual double beach of Prasonisi, which is also called the kiss of the two seas. On the signs here, you can find information on which beach has big waves and where, on the other hand, the water is calm. Accordingly, water sports lovers decide which conditions are more suitable for them.

Lighthouse

You can walk the peninsula that connects the double beach to the mainland. You will find several paths from which you have a nice view of both beaches. There is a functioning lighthouse in the very south of the peninsula. You can reach it in about twenty minutes. From the lighthouse there is a unique view of the sharp rocks and the sea, the island of Karpathos can be seen in the distance.

Old observation tower

Further along the way, while walking around the peninsula, we pass old lookout towers. A couple of goats are hiding in its shadow, which are omnipresent on the island, so they don't surprise us even here in this deserted place.

Sub Beach

After about another 20 minutes, you will come across a small beach called SuBe Beach on the eastern side of the peninsula, where you can refresh yourself. We enjoyed swimming on a private beach just for us. On the opposite side of the peninsula there is another unnamed beach, also miniature.

Follow the path back to the beach

After a refreshing swim, we head back to the car behind the double beach. We follow the path that leads to the eastern sides of the peninsula. From the trail we have beautiful views of our private beach and then further on to the cliffs washed by the sea playing all shades of blue.

Paradise for windsurfing and kitesurfing

Before crossing the beach of Prasonisi, which is completely sandy and almost constantly blowing strong winds, we admire the agility of several water sports enthusiasts. You can rent equipment for windsurfing and kitesurfing as well as an instructor right on the beach.

Before you return to the accommodation, you can have refreshments in several taverns near the parking lot behind the beaches. There is also a grocery store and a gift shop.
