Both levas are located in the same valley, on the same slope, just a few tens of meters above each other. Initially, they lead through a beautiful agricultural landscape with ocean views, then immerse themselves in a deep valley with a tunnel and a waterfall.Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?…

Lombada da Ponta do Sol

The beginning of the journey is in the town of Lombada near the chapel of Espírito Santo (Holy Spirit): We set off along the plain 150 meters to the sign „Levada Nova“. From here we climb steeply up the Caminho das Pedras to the beginning of the levada.

At the beginning of the levada, it pays to turn back south. There is a nice view of the town and the endless waters of the ocean.

Valley

We continue through a wide valley along Levada Nova, which is above Levada do Moinho. The river Ribeira da Ponta do Sol roars deep below us.

Levada Nova

We continue more often along the wall, which is 40 to 50 cm wide. The levada cuts deeper and deeper into the hillsides and sections appear that are not for those who suffer from dizziness.

Waterfall

After passing a 200-meter long tunnel (flashlight or headlamp required), a waterfall appears in front of us.

Shower

We are lucky now after the summer months, the shower is not that big. But in winter, there is supposedly more refreshing water falling on the heads of tourists.

Levada do Moinho

After about 10 minutes walk from the waterfall, we turn sharply left down the stairs to the lower Levada do Moinho. We're going back south. At the rest stop we pass a stream with a „mini waterfall“.
