Lagazuoi is not just a mountain with beautiful views of the surroundings. But it is a mountain that still tells the story of a 2-year war during the First World War in the years 1915 – 1917. There were battles between the Austro-Hungarian army and the Italian army. To this day, trenches and rubble fields have been preserved here after the trenches were shot. Lagazuoi is 17 km west of Cortina d'Ampezzo. You can get to the top by cable car or on foot or via ferrata. From here, hikes can be undertaken. And we'll show you one cool one.

Lagazuoi Circuit

In the interior of the First World War

Lagazuoi is not just a mountain with beautiful views of the surroundings. But it is a mountain that still tells the story of a 2-year war during the First World War in the years 1915 – 1917. There were battles between the Austro-Hungarian army and the Italian army. To this day, trenches and rubble fields have been preserved here after the trenches were shot. Lagazuoi is 17 km west of Cortina d'Ampezzo. You can get to the top by cable car or on foot or via ferrata. From here, hikes can be undertaken. And we'll show you one cool one. The place is highly visited. So again, it is necessary to count on an early visit, because the parking lots are not so large. So it is possible that with a later arrival you will have to go to another parking lot from where it is necessary 2 km. The trip of the cable car one ride costs 13 Euro and if so back 18 Euro, which is good information for planners. For top climbers, this information is valid as a legless shoe :-) On Lagazuoi there is a cottage of the same name, where it is possible to have refreshments. There is also a small museum. There is also a remnant of trenches. The Italians are probably very proud of this battle, because here you can meet figures of Italian thinkers – bersagliers. Although they eventually lost in this battle. I would definitely not miss the trip to Piccolo Lagazuoi, which everyone can handle and has something to offer. The views are stunning. But we continue to Castelletto. This way we cannot miss the remains of the Italian trenches, which can be passed with a flashlight. Watch your head and feet! At one of the crossroads there is a beautiful view of Lagazuoi, where you can see the blasted mountain. But Castelletto already boasts a beautiful valley. But even here we do not end and continue along his heel to Tofana di Rozes. The height of the rocks that captivates. At the same time, this is not a challenging hike so far. On the right we have a view of Averau – a mountain which also enjoyed its time during the First World War and then to other three thousand mountains. According to the forces, another Camillo Giussani hut will be reached, but we have already omitted this due to time constraints. And so we go to the crossroads to the cottage Rifugio Angelo Dibona and go through the lower contours. Where a small waterfall awaits us and then a tunnel from the First World War. Back to the parking lot.
