Sacred circle in the center of Kathmandu
Almost every tourist visiting Nepal wants to ascend to the stupa Swayambhunath in Kathmandu. But only a few of them, however, improve his/her karma by making here a sacred kora, i.e. bypass the whole hill along the wall with thousands of prayer wheels. In addition, at the western foot of the hill lies so-called Buddha park with huge golden Buddha statues.
The beginning of kora
The main starting point for this walk is the same as with the ascent to the stupa Swayambhunath. You only need to walk along the wall to the west. After a few dozen meters you will hardly meet a tourist, but monks or locals quite often.
Macaques
You'd have to be very unlucky not to see the bands of inquisitive monkeys. Monkey temple and its surroundings are truly worthy of the name.
Beautiful chortens
The route of the kora leads along beautifully decorated chortens. There are thousands of prayer wheels here, so it would be a lot of work if want to spin all of them.
Buddha park
The biggest attraction of this walk is Buddha park on the very western end of the hill. You can see here monumental sculptures. After seeing it you can complete the circuit, which is on the north side of the hill less interesting, or get a taxi to get back to Thamel.
