Charles IV came up with the idea to build a castle. The kingdom of that time needed to protect the land border – the Golden Trail – rich gold mines and paddy fields.

Kasperk Castle

The highest royal castle

Today we head to the majestic Gothic castle, which was founded by Charles IV. in 1356. It is the highest royal castle in Bohemia, located at an altitude of 886 meters. We will leave the car in the parking lot – the village of Žlíbek. Parking is paid. You will pay 50 crowns here for the whole day. And now we're going on foot. Take into account that the castle is located about 1.2 km from the parking lot. We will climb to 886 meters above sea level. We go all the way along the asphalt road that leads directly to the castle.

Kasperk Castle

Because we still have enough strength, we will first go to the viewpoint of Pustý hrádek, which is located at an altitude of 909 meters. The road to Pustý hrádek is located on the left side directly opposite the castle. From the beginning there is a paved path. Be very careful – you will go for big stones, which are everywhere. We continue uphill. It's a fairly large climb. There are several paths trodden here. I chose the far left here. I probably wouldn't bring small children here. It is a very difficult journey. And children in the stroller at all.

On the way to Pustý hrádek there are amazing views of Kašperk castle.

Kasperk Castle

We are at the top of Pustý hrádek. The desolate castle is the remains of the advanced fortifications of Kašperk Castle. From this place there are amazing views of the castle Kašperk and the surrounding area. This is where the most amazing photographs of Kašperk Castle are taken. There is a risk of falling. Be careful. When I was in this place, a very strong wind blew.
