City tour of Zakynthos

We can start our tour of the city right next to the largest religious monument – the church of Agios Dionysios

Like almost all Orthodox churches, this one is very richly decorated, candles are burning and there is an interesting atmosphere. Of course, it is possible to buy various church things from the church

Some parts of the church are decorated so that the eyes cross.

Right next to the church is a high bell tower. From here we set off along the port promenade

The walk along the port promenade is pleasant. All the time you have nice views of the city, the hill above the city and of course the boats. Count on it to be about a kilometer long from the church to the main square, so if you don't go in the early evening, the sun will burn you quite a bit.

In the port you can see a whole range of boats – from luxury yachts to small fishing boats or large ships

When you get bored with the promenade, head to the streets of the old town. Here you will find a large number of picturesque churches

The very city center is around Agiou Markou Square. Souvenirs, restaurants, ice cream vendors, you will find it all here. There is also a nice church of San Marco and the Dionysios Solomos Museum

Like almost every Mediterranean city, Zakynthos has the best atmosphere after dark – locals and tourists alike, restaurants offer seafood or other Greek specialties. It certainly has a more pleasant atmosphere here than in the tourist center of Laganas

Next door is the huge Dionysius Solomos Square with the dominant building of the Museum of Post Byzantine Art

Another interesting building on the square is the church of Agios Nikolaou

Above the town rises a fairly high hill on which is the historic village of Bochali.
