Ascent to Sina, Bor and Zákľuky

The route starts at the crossroads Bielá Púť in Demänovská Dolina, in the local part of Jasná. There are several car parks nearby and a bus stop a short distance away. On the edge of Jasná is a picturesque lake, in the surface of which the Bôru massif is reflected – one of the goals of today's expedition. Before we get there, however, Ostredok and especially Sina are waiting for us.

From the Bielá Púť crossroads, take the yellow road to the first destination – the Ostredok peak. The peak is part of a relatively low, yet distinctive ridge in the middle of the Demänovská valley, which divides it into two parts. After a comfortable path, we quickly reach the ridge, from which there is an excellent view of the surrounding mountains and valleys. However, mainly due to the fact that even this place did not escape the calamity, as a result of which a large part of the slopes is bare. In front, on the left side, you can see Sina and then on the left, the adjoining Bôru ridge (out of focus). Right on the edge of the ridge is a newly built lookout tower, which is a bit useless here and will probably be useless for a few more years before the view from the road is covered by young trees. Then we pass a monument to unknown warriors and right behind it is a monument to Ján Šverma. A few meters behind the monument is a tourist sign indicating the peak of Ostredok (1,167 m above sea level). However, the highest point of the ridge is still about a kilometer further and is about 40 meters higher. At the highest point is a symbolic cemetery for the victims of the Low Tatras. Behind him, the road becomes a footpath, which in some places descends quite steeply into the valley to the crossroads Demänovská Cave of Freedom at an altitude of 850 m above sea level

To the cave itself, it is about half a kilometer from the crossroads to the right along the blue. At the cave there is a parking lot (at least during the opening hours of the cave is paid) and a bus stop. If you are only going to Sina, there is an ideal place to start the ascent. Likewise, there may be an alternative start (and finish) for the entire circuit. If we go from Jasná, there is no need to turn to the cave, but we will continue straight along the yellow road to the Sinai Saddle. The path initially leads through a deep gorge around the stream and rises slightly. Gradually the inclination increases, in one place there is a chain. At higher altitudes, the forest is quite damaged by upheavals and many trees are still lying on the ground here (September 2018). Were it not for a few signs on the fallen trees indicating the right direction, it would be easy to get off the trail. Trees often need to be climbed, crawled or bypassed. A little higher we get to a completely deforested slope. Around the narrow path, which is overgrown with tall grass, various thistles, blackberries, etc., the trees have already been removed, but there are several places in the area where there are still a large number of trees as they fell. The view of the surrounding hills begins to open up, but when one realizes that there were dense forests everywhere a few years ago, it's a sad sight. After about one and a half hours, we finally reach the Sinai Saddle at an altitude of 1,301 m above sea level

In the saddle we turn right, still on the yellow. It is only less than an hour's drive to the top of Sina and about 260 m of elevation gain. The forest has been preserved on the ridge, but in some places it is still necessary to overcome the uprooted trees. The path continues around several rock walls, somewhere it is secured by a chain. After less than half an hour, we will get above the forest border. All that remains of the top is a short, steep, grassy slope.

At the top, at an altitude of 1,560 m above sea level, there is a double wooden cross with a top book. And of course there is an amazing view from here. Both to the ridge of Bôra and Chopok, as well as to Liptovský Mikuláš and the Liptovská Mara reservoir. With good visibility, it is possible to see the High Tatras.

The marked trail ends at the top of Sina and there is nothing left but to return to the Sinai Saddle the same way. If you only planned to ascend to Sina, you will descend from the saddle to the Demänovská Cave of Freedom (again in the same way as when ascending). Otherwise, we will continue on to Bôr, still following the yellow. ** The following section between Sedlo Sinai and Poľana is accessible only in the period from 1 July to 30 September. ** The journey to the top of Bôre from here takes approximately two hours. The trail slowly climbs through the forest, and after about an hour's walk we find ourselves above the forest border. Suddenly, a beautiful view of the surroundings opens up to us. The higher we are, the more impressive it is. Looking back, we see part of the ridge along which the trail leads, and in the distance behind it, Sina.

A relatively comfortable footpath will take us to the top of Bôr at an altitude of 1,888 m above sea level. At the top is a triangulation rod and a few meters further a wooden pole. Deep below us is Jasná, one of the largest ski resorts in Slovakia.

The path continues further along the ridge, after a slight descent it begins to climb again. After about seven hundred meters from Bôr, we ascend to another, only a few meters lower and probably nameless peak. Rather just an intermediate peak.

After another six hundred meters we reach another, this time a regular peak. With an altitude of 1,914 m, Zákľuky is the highest point of the ridge and also the highest point of today's hike.

From Zákľuk it is only less than a kilometer to the last peak of this route – Poľana (1,889 m above sea level), separated by a shallow saddle. Needless to say, from here, as well as from the whole ridge, there are great views.

Now we only have a constant descent along the yellow marked route to Jasná. At the crossroads at the top of Poľana, turn left to Sedlo Poľany, where the descent from the ridge begins. With a little luck, it is possible to meet chamois right on the trail. We will return to the starting point via the Tri vody crossroads and around Vrbický ples (or via Jasná) to the Bielá Púť crossroads.
