The westernmost national park on the island
At the westernmost tip of the island is the promontory of Akamas. A smaller national park is established here, which is named after the Trojan hero Akamant, the son of the Athenian These, who allegedly settled here.

The original low vegetation and rare species of birds and mammals have been preserved in this protected area. Endangered Cypriot mouflons and herds of wild goats live here, for example.
