Meanders of the river guarded by vultures
The seemingly ordinary Uvac river, which creates beautiful meanders near the Serbian town of Sjenica, is a great place for a day visit. We can walk around these meanders and watch the canyon with the river below us, while bald vultures circle overhead. The canyon, whose walls are 200 to 350 meters deep, is the nesting ground of about seventy pairs of these rare birds, which are artificially fed here. Along the way we pass small cottages, grazing cattle and to our delight we do not meet any tourists.
Camping over the river
After arriving in the town of Sjenica, we drove towards the river. It was getting dark slowly and we were looking for a place to sleep. There was a small food stand by the road, which was very difficult to navigate, and its owner allowed us to set up tents in the place you see in the photo. We could take his wood, start a fire, and he even showed us a kayak and paddles and told us to borrow everything the next day.
Morning landscape
We got up early in the morning and went on a trek around the canyon. The sun was just rising and the fresh air was pleasant.
Passersby
The August sun was beginning to roar uncomfortably. This horse must have been either poor or very resilient poor. We would look in vain for a shadow around him.

Uvac
View of the most winding and beautiful part of the whole river. Further downstream, it is possible to reach Lake Sjeničko. According to the locals, whom we were the only ones we met all day, it was supposed to be dry and we could not find a way to it.

Along the way, a few dwellings of local herders were seen. But we didn't see anyone around. Maybe they don't live here permanently.
Bald vultures
The vultures began circling overhead with the increasing rays of the sun. They didn't want to fly on a colder morning.
Cows and cows again
In August, the landscape was so arid that the cows could graze hay directly from the meadow.
Serbian arid landscape
After a while of searching, we found a path down to the river, where we could cool off pleasantly in the clear water. After an unsuccessful attempt to stop the motorboat, we headed back to our tents.
