In the town of Petra (significantly less known and interesting than the Jordanian rock town of Petra) you can go on a short hike to the church of Panagia on a massive rock, or wander through the picturesque streets full of restaurants. Sea lovers head to the northern part of the bay to a very nice beach. The city can also serve as a starting point for longer hikes in the surrounding mountains.

Panorama of Petra

No matter which way you go to the town of Petra, you will always see the famous picturesque scenery with a lone rock that rises from the seaside. At its top is the church of Panagia and in the vicinity there are historic streets with restaurants and souvenir shops.

Beach promenade in Petra

Petra has only two important roads, the coastal road, which is very often completely jammed, and then a smaller bypass of the city. If you are going here for a tour, go along the sea and park in a surprisingly large place north of the center. Directly opposite the old center is a pier with a nice view of the surroundings. To the north you can see the city beach, which is better in its northern part.

View direction Anaxos

To the south, the seafront leads into the distance, almost to neighboring Anaxos. There are benches on the pier, so you can relax here.

Isle of Ag. Georgios

Directly opposite the town are three abandoned islands. On the largest of them – Ag. Georgios is also a small church.

View of the church of Panagia

The biggest landmark of the city, however, is the church of Panagia, which looks more like a small castle, visible almost everywhere.

Tourist center of Petra

After leaving the waterfront, let yourself be immersed in the streets of the historic center. Of course, it lives here the most in the evening, but even during the day it has a pleasant atmosphere. Shading in the form of a „living roof“ is typical of Lesbos and very pleasant.

View of Panagia

It is worth a visit, as part of a tour of the center of Petra, the entire central rock, because there are very nice views of the church of Panagia. The most interesting of the whole town, however, is a visit to the church. The description of the very exit and the view from the church is HERE.

Lookout beach in Petra

Petra's tour would not be complete without you taking a bath here. The beach itself starts just a short distance from the center, but the most beautiful part is at the very northern end of the bay. Here you can enjoy swimming along with panoramic views of this picturesque bay. In the early evening, they take nice photos here.
